If you are planning to head to the Gibraltar for a holiday this year, you’re in luck as there are plenty of things to do on this beautiful destination. The Gibraltar Museum
A historic 14th century building gives home to the Gibraltar Museum. The museum chronicles some of the major historical events that have occurred in Gibraltar throughout centuries of the Islands history – the perfect attraction for the historians! Delve into the history and gain insight and perspective how Gibraltar looked 30,000 years ago, learn about the Great Siege Tunnels and discover what it really means to be Gibraltarian. If you go at the right time, occasionally there are also temporary exhibitions on display at the museum.
Gibraltar Museum is open Monday – Friday from 10am until 6pm and on Saturdays from 10am until 2pm. Admission to the museum is £5 per adult and £2.50 for the little ones under 12 – so reasonably priced for the invaluable knowledge!
Main Street Shopping
The shopping scene in Gibraltar is a shopping lovers paradise! The total length of the main shopping street has been pedestrianised so you can shop till you drop without the hassle of getting stuck in traffic. The first impression of Main Street is that it is like any British high street as there are all the usual high street brands such as Next, Tommy Hilfiger, Mango and many more. The Main Street is a duty-free location so you will be able to get great bargains including spirits, perfumes and jewellery without worrying about the extra taxes. After shopping you can rest your feet, fuel your appetite in one of Main Streets many cafes, bars and restaurants.
Gibraltar Nature Reserve
The Nature Reserve is a protected and conserved area where you will find some of Gibraltar’s most historical sites; St. Michaels Cave, Great Siege Tunnels, Moorish Castle, Apes Den, World War 2 Tunnels and many more. The quickest and easiest way to reach the reserve is via cable car which runs every 10 to 15 minutes and only takes approximately 6 minutes to reach the top of the Rock – the perfect opportunity to get some insta-worthy photos on the way up! All of the iconic and ancient sites in one place – it’s so convenient and it makes it easier to learn the historical stories about each site. Beaches – all local to the Eliott Hotel
Don’t miss a day at the beach while holidaying in Gibraltar, there are so many fantastic sandy beaches in the local vicinity of the Eliott Hotel that you have to pay a visit to. Eastern Beach is the largest sandy beach in Gibraltar and joins the Rock to Spain and spans from Catalan bay to the Airport – the perfect spot to sunbathe for the whole afternoon. Catalan Bay is another gorgeous bay & fishing village on the Eastern side of the Rock – ideal for spending the day fishing while topping up your tan. If you’re travelling with young kids, Little Bay is the best place to spend your beach days – Little Bay is a natural cove and also has a small swimming pool for the little ones.
The Alameda: Gibraltar Botanic Gardens
Gibraltar’s National Botanic Gardens has escapism written all over it. There is nothing more relaxing than being in the heart of nature and the gardens is the perfect place to flee to and recharge when the hustle and bustle of Gibraltar is getting a little too much – we all need a break sometimes! The Botanic Gardens grow flora from all over the world but try to stay focused on plants from parts of the world that thrive in the Mediterranean climate so you can get a glimpse and some snaps of plants that you may not see in the cold weather at home. Not only are the gardens home to various plants, they also have a Wildlife Conservation Park – a small zoo to house animals that can’t be returned to the wild like exotic birds, lizards & more.
